workshop by Mikala Hyldig Dal and Magdalena Kallenberger (MATERNAL FANTASIES)
Everyone is proud to be called a “supermom”, but as a feminist art collective we ask, why do we continuously need to perform as if we would have super powers? How can we join forces with peers instead of being cast as lonely heroes? How can we (re)distribute artistic responsibilities as well as domestic and emotional labor? We set out to build new social and artistic infrastructures – together.
Drawing on the artistic methods and strategies developed by MATERNAL FANTASIES during the past years, the workshop “WHAT’S THE TROUBLE, SUPERMOM?“ includes a collective reading and writing session on Rebecca Solnitt’s text “When the hero is the problem” (2009) and a series of performative exercises that examine the potentials of collective artistic agency.
